Three men were arrested in Ocean City last weekend after they were found to be in possession of two loaded handguns and several different forms of marijuana packaged for distribution.
Joshua Bernard Latuharhary, 19, of Fairfax, Virginia, Augustine Kofi Boakye, 19, of Lorton, Virginia, and Henokh Yareday Natanae Matheos, 22, of Silver Spring, Maryland were arrested by Ocean City Police at approximately 5 p.m. on Aug. 20 near S. Division Street and charged with handgun and drug-related crimes.
Police stopped Boakye after smelling marijuana coming from the car he was driving. Boakye and his two passengers, Latuharhary and Matheos, were ordered out of the vehicle to conduct a search, and they complied.
During the search, police found a loaded 9mm handgun under the front passenger seat occupied by Latuharhary, a black sling bag on the rear driver’s side seat containing another loaded 9mm handgun, 10 disposable THC vapes, two bags containing approximately one ounce of marijuana, a scale with THC residue, and four empty plastic bags with THC residue, located next to Matheos.
Police also found a gray duffle bag in the trunk, which Boakye admitted to officers was his, containing an ounce of marijuana and a cell phone. Also in the trunk was a black backpack containing six plastic zip bags of marijuana, a large heat-seal plastic bag with approximately three ounces of marijuana, two metal grinders, a scale, several sandwich bags, eight disposable THC vapes, and empty 50-count box of THC vapes, and a tow truck receipt with Matheos’ name on it.
Additionally, police found two boxes of plastic sandwich bags on the rear driver’s side seat and a plastic bag with one amphetamine/dextroamphetamine in the driver’s side door panel, next to Boakye.
After being read his Miranda Rights, Boakye told police he knew the guns and marijuana were in the car and admitted to owning the gray bag in the trunk. He also told police he drove to Ocean City earlier in the day and met up with Matheos and Latuharhary at 7 a.m.
Latuharhary was also read his Miranda Rights and said the handgun under his seat was his, and the backpack in the trunk belonged to Matheos, who refused to speak with police.
All three men were charged with possession of the loaded handguns in the vehicle.
Boakye and Latuharhary were charged with possession of ammunition as a minor.
Boakye was also charged with possession of drugs after police discovered the amphetamine/dextroamphetamine in the door next to him.
Latuharhary and Matheos picked up charges of drug trafficking with a firearm, drug distribution with a firearm, possession of drugs with distribution intent, and possession of an assault pistol magazine.
Matheos was also charged with possession of a handgun after being charged with a violent felonious crime.
